Exhibition

Permanent exhibition

A chronological exhibition with interactive interfaces and a multimedia hall in a former cistern.

The permanent exhibition leads chronologically through the wartime events in Dalmatia. Although the space is small, it is equipped with interactive interfaces and a small multimedia hall located in the former cistern that once belonged to the palace.

Through the exhibition

  1. Occupation

The collapse of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, the establishment of the Independent State of Croatia and the fascist occupation of the coast; everyday life under occupation.

  2. Uprising and resistance

The beginning of organised armed and civilian resistance, partisan detachments in Dalmatia, support from the town and the hinterland, the position of civilians.

  3. ZAVNOH and political organisation

The State Anti-Fascist Council for the National Liberation of Croatia and its decisions on a federal Croatia and the position of Dalmatia.

  4. The offensive of the Eighth Dalmatian Corps

The central part of the exhibition: military operations for the liberation of Dalmatia and their political consequence — the permanent return of Dalmatia and the islands to Croatia.

  5. Victory and memory

Liberation, aftermath, victims and the way Šibenik and Dalmatia shaped the memory of the people's liberation movement after 1945.

Temporary exhibitions and digital projects

Besides the permanent exhibition, the museum also hosts temporary thematic exhibitions, and digital projects are actively developed — from digitising material to recording the memories of participants and witnesses. Exhibition announcements are published in the news.

The cistern beneath the palace

The multimedia hall is set in the space of a former water cistern that belonged to the Renaissance palace on Fra Nikole Ružića street. The original stone vaults are preserved as part of the story: visitors literally descend into the history of the town.
